Since far too often we only publicly say nice things about people when they are dead I’ve decided to randomly pick a Facebook friend every day and say something nice about them.

Today’s person: Amy Lizardo!
I met Amy Lozardo when she auditioned for my production of Julius Caesar at African American Shakespeare. I was directing a small cast version, and needed someone who could play the desperate love of Calpurnia as well as the devious plotter Casca. But somehow, despite Amy’s buttkickingly good monologue I just could not believe anyone was that amazing. So I put her through a ridiculous callback which simply blew me away. She did a great job in the production, and I wanted to work with her forever.
But that not always up to me. Even when she and Reggie White stood side by side and asked about being in a Mime Troupe together! My next chance was when Amy and I were in Dogfight together at SF Playhouse, and she was somehow even better - which I didn’t think was possible. She has a graceful yet powerful ease onstage, smooth and hilarious, sexy and face-punchingly dangerous. Oh, and she sings like a fallen angel demanding love and justice. She’s is one of those actors that makes me want to win the lottery so I can cast her in anything she wants to do just so I can work with her, watch her, and learn from her.
